Using a landmark name is a little tricky as you must already know a landmark name associated with a photo. Landmarks may be natural features such as points, beaches, bays, and spits. They may also include features such as county lines, piers, docks, parks, locks and marinas.
Using an island name is helpful if you want to navigate around a specific island but you do not know its location on a map. You do not have to enter the word "island" after the name. Some searches are: Harbor, Vashon, Maury, and San Juan.
Searching by jurisdiction name is effective for navigating through a region but may not help you narrow your search. For example, a search on Seattle will return over 140 results.
Using a county name will find all photos within a single county. This is not recommended as there may be more than 1,000 records found.
Photos are identified in the database by a photo ID. The ID is a composite of the first three letters of the county where the photo is located (except for San Juan County) followed by a 4-digit number. Photo 1 in King County for example, will be indentified (kin0001). The following 15 counties are included in this site:
