The Site is currenlty located in an area that is currently a mix of commercial structures, and both light and heavy industrial lands. Previous activities that contaminated the site included two leaking underground storage tanks and a waste oil spill. Based on the cleanup completed, Ecology has determined the site does not pose a threat to human health or the environment. Lake Whatcom water cleanup plan available for review
Ecology worked with the city of Bellingham and Whatcom County officials to update a 2008 report to include guidance and strategy to limit pollutants entering Lake Whatcom.
The report recommends that in order to protect Lake Whatcom and the drinking water for 100,000 people the amount of pollutants entering the lake has to be substantially reduced.
